About us
A father–daughter idea. A family project.
In 2000, the Nkurunziza family arrived in Canada to rebuild their lives, carrying with them resilience, tradition, and a lasting connection to their Rwandan roots. With two young toddlers who would grow up between cultures, the family slowly built a life grounded in community while keeping the stories and heritage of their homeland close.
In Rwanda, coffee is more than a drink. It is a gesture of welcome, a reason to gather, and a moment shared between neighbours, friends, and family.
Years later, those memories inspired IKAWA.
What began as a simple idea between a father and daughter grew into a small family venture dedicated to sharing Rwanda’s exceptional coffees with care, respect, and authenticity.
Through every cup, IKAWA celebrates the land, the farmers, and the traditions that shaped our journey.
